Scientific Overview

Nonlinear hyperbolic balance laws are ubiquitous in the modelling of fluidmechanical processes. They enable the development of powerful numerical simulation methods that back decision-making for critical applications such as in-silico aircraft design or climate change research. However, fundamental questions about distinctive hyperbolic features remain open including the multi-scale interference of shock and shear waves, or the interplay of hyperbolic transport and random environments. The largely unsolved well-posedness problem for multi-dimensional inviscid flow equations is deeply connected to the laws of turbulent fluid motion in the high Reynolds-number limit. Further progress requires a concerted effort of both fluid mechanics and the mathematical fields of analysis, numerics, and stochastics.

Program

The program will appear here in January 2027.

Registration

Registration is only open for people involved in the SPP2410 phase 1 or phase 2. The registration form is open until January 31, 2027 at a form that will appear here in autumn 2026. .

Accommodation and Travel

Due to the limited availability of hotel rooms in Aachen, we have reserved rooms at the "Aquis Grana" for workshop participants. If you are interested in reserving a room, please contact the hotel directly at info@hotel-aquisgrana.com, mentioning the names Michael Herty. This allows you to obtain the reduced rate. We advise you to make your reservation by February 24, 2027, as we will no longer be able to guarantee availability after this date.
The participants need to pay for their own travel and accomodation. SPP members will be billed using the guest billing form. This can be found on the internal SPP pages. Please send your billing documents to Sylvia Zur.

For those who need to reach Aachen by plane, here you can find a list of the nearest airports and how they are connected to Aachen.
