TITLE On the derivation of the Discontinuous Galerkin method for hyperbolic conservation laws

ABSTRACT We re-derive Cockburn and Shu’s semi-discrete Discontinuous Galerkin method [Mathematics of Computation, 52:411-435, 1989] by passing to the limit in the classical space-time weak formulation. This leads to a new interpretation of the role of the numerical flux function.
