Scientific Overview

Optimization and control have many applications in various fields of applied science and engineering, also with particular relevance for sub-Saharan Africa, e.g. in the field of infrastructure, health, and mobility. Many real life problems are described as highly complex mathematical models, which are subject to optimization and control. While a careful mathematical analysis and their solution methods may not solve directly the mentioned problems, the improved understanding through optimization models will provide important contributions.
This workshop provides an opportunity for the participants to present their recent results and exchange ideas on these current scientific topics. A core goal of this workshop is to create an environment for collaborative research as basis for future research cooperation. This workshop has a special focus on young scientists who shall be motivated by an overview of current and timely research topics in optimization and control. Also, they will be part of a novel research network and have the opportunity to present their own research.

Participants:

The workshop is intended for young and senior researchers from Africa and Germany.

Short Course:

A short course for young researchers will give an overview on some central aspects and current research topics in optimization and control.

Workshop:

During the workshop senior researchers will give talks and review some of the major topics and new trends in the area.
A poster session will give young researchers the opportunity to present their research.

Registration & Funding

There is a limited number of participants. We will give preference to young and senior researchers from Africa and Germany. Accommodation and meals at the Future Africa Campus are covered.

Accommodation

The accommodation during the workshop, which we have booked for a few participants is

Hotel@Hatfield
1141 Burnett Street
8001 Hatfield, Pretoria
Pretoria, South Africa

Please note that there will be a change in ownership of the hotel, so it may be called the Protea Hotel at the time of the workshop.
